I’m pretty sure I’ve talked about writing in second person. Maybe my views have changed, but my stance is a novel written in second person is very select. In fact, when Googling second person novels there is a very limited selection.
Outside of the choose-your-own-adventure books from our childhood, there really aren’t very many options.
That said, I don’t know that I’ve ever been compelled to write in that voice. This is mainly because I set out to tell a story and that is just easier to convey in first or third person. To me, first person feels more intimate, like sitting down and conversing over a meal. Third person feels a little more detached, but still maintains the story-teller vibe.
Previously, I have always chosen a voice and stuck with it.
Now, I’m playing. Bouncing between voices and tenses is fun. I just hope the reader can slide along smoothly with what’s flowing out of my head. I’m listening to the muse. I love it when writing is playing.
Just to keep you updated, A&G 3 is still sitting there staring at me. I’m trying to balance creating new with editing and that has been a true challenge for me. Sitting down for coffee this morning it dawned on me that it has been more than a year since the creative has come out to play.
That said, I’m trying to let the creative muse find time and energy to wander forward.
While I’m joining the muse on her wanderings, don’t forget to keep on reading, keep on holding the door for everyone, and keep on flying the Black.
